Nigeria government to create 20 more new States~details below
20 new more State to be created, the Senate Committee on Constitution who made the review has recommended the creation of 20 new states.
So in order to go in line with the constitution, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be conducting a referendum for the creation of the states
Hope Uzodinma the governor of Imo state, who advocated for an additional state for the South-East region.
According governor Uzodinma he said that, “Ndigbo would be proud of the country if additional six states is created in the region.
However he stressed that, “South-East region has only five States which include Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia and Anambra, while other geopolitical zones have at least six states and more.
According to Onofiok Luke the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, who sponsored the bill, said in the explanatory note that the bill seeks to alter the Constitution “to provide for state police and other state government security services to enhance security and protection of lives and properties in the country”.

The House of Representatives has also passed for a second reading, a bill seeking to amend the 1999 Constitution to allow the creation of states police and legalize regional security outfits in Nigeria.
