Nigeria to lift Twitter ban after reaching out a peaceful resolution–Lai Mohammed~details below
The minister of information and culture Alahji Lai Mohammed says, Nigeria government will be lifting Twitter ban (Operation of microblogging platform) Lai Mohammed said this during an interview on Wednesday.
According to Lai Mohammed who allege that,”negotiations with the Social networking service site have been robustly successful as some of the disputes raised with the company has been dissolved, he said this after Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The Twitter ban in Nigeria came as a result of the threating post made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Twitter that “he will threat Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the language they understand, this made Twitter deleted the post on June 4th 2021.
however the Minister said while speaking with journalists”that the areas still pending include setting up a Twitter office and having a Twitter staff of management cadre that will serve as the country representative”
He further explained that “most of the conditions given to the platform have been accepted, and the end for amicable resolution is very much in sight, he said.”
In addition Lai Mohammed opined that “We appreciate the patience of Nigerians. I want to assure you that we have made very tremendous progress. We have met with Twitter both physically and in writing. We are actually almost there, he said.”
“The engagement has been extremely positive without any acrimony. We have made it clear what we want from Twitter.”
“They (Twitter) have shown a lot of flexibility, the conversation has not been acrimonious.”
