Following the incessant and diabolical killings being perpetrated by the Fulani herders, Samuel Ortom the governor of Benue state has vowed that his government would take cohesive measures to address the actions of militia herders and invaders in the state.
While speaking at the press conference on the state of the nation Monday, March 14, The governor issued a warning that, the state government would no longer deliberately over the number of residents massacred on a daily basis but take a radical decisions on the herders invading communities in Benue.
Meanwhile, the governor said “actions against the herders will be taken through community efforts in collaboration with convention security agents in Benue state”
He further noted that, the herders have continued to attack communities which includes Guma, Logo and Gwer West, Agatu in an unprovoked manner for the past couple of weeks.
In a statement released by the chief secretary to the governor Nathaniel Ikyur, after the conference said the governor revealed that in less than those couple weeks, more than 20 people have been killed by the herders.
Ortom said this has skyrocketed the number of internally displaced persons IDPs in the state.
Therefore calling on mr president to resign, Ortom said, the present administration has exemplified a high level of incompetence, abysmal performance, lack of clear direction and lackadaisically heightened insecurity in Nigeria.
However, the traditional and political leaders of the Nzorov clan of Benue state had given a go ahead to governor Samuel Ortom to contest for Senate seat.
The approval by the leaders for Ortom to run for Benue northwest senatorial seat at the 2023 elections was handed over to the governor on Saturday, March 5. As they also given Ortom their blessings to not only run for Senate but also to pursue any highest political career he deems fit.
