Abia State Government to Enforce Ban on Street Trading in Aba: Impact on Infrastructure and Security
The Abia State Government, led by Governor Alex Otti, is intensifying efforts to curb street trading, particularly in Aba, due to its adverse impact on newly constructed roads.
Information and Culture Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu highlighted the government’s determination to enforce the ban, expressing concerns over the persistence of street trading despite previous efforts to tackle it.
The government is also prioritizing infrastructure development, aiming to complete road projects and address pension arrears owed to retirees.
Moreover, Governor Otti emphasized the commitment to enhancing security by combating crime, mainly targeting cultism and drug addiction. This commitment was underscored during a sensitization campaign organized by the Abia State Orientation Agency.
The Inspector General of Police represented at the event, commended the initiative, acknowledging the pressing need to address the rising issues of cultism and drug abuse among the youth.
