The Canadian government has expressed concern over the excessive use of force on protesters in Nigeria.

The government said this after reports of soldiers opening fire on protesters at Lekki tollgate on Tuesday.

Canada further called on the Government to bring to book those responsible for the human right violations and abuse in Nigeria.

A tweet by Canada’s Foreign Policy reads, “Canada is deeply concerned about the excessive use of force during the ongoing protests in #Nigeria.

“Those responsible for #HumanRights violations and abuse must be held accountable.”
