Obama Tells On Congress To Find Permanent Solution For “Dreamers” After Judge Blocks New Applications

Former President Obama is pushing for Congress to permit legislation for permanent protection for non-documented immigrants who came into the U.S as minors.  Better know as Dreamers, but a ruling was issued Friday that blocked all new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“For more than nine years, DREAMers have watched courts and politicians debate whether they’ll be allowed to stay in the only country many of them have ever known. It’s long past time for Congress to act and give them the protection and certainty they deserve,” Obama tweeted Saturday.

In 2012 the Obama-era program was created through and executive order, but there were still several failed attempts to pass legislation in Congress. President Biden referred to this issue in his own statement by calling the ruling “deeply disappointing.”

“The Department of Justice intends to appeal this decision in order to preserve and fortify DACA. And, as the court recognized, the Department of Homeland Security plans to issue a proposed rule concerning DACA in the near future,” Biden stated.

Biden has also stepped behind Obama calling on Congress to find a permanent solution for citizenship to Dreamers.

“It is my fervent hope that through reconciliation or other means, Congress will finally provide security to all Dreamers, who have lived too long in fear,” he said.
