‘Lagos records 5,624 abusive behavior at home cases in a single year’

 The Lagos State Government, on Thursday, said 5,624 instances of homegrown and sexual savagery were kept in the state between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2023.

The most youthful casualty of sexual brutality in the period under survey was a 18-month-old child, while the most seasoned survivor of aggressive behavior at home inside a similar period was a 79-year-elderly person.

This was revealed by the Specialist General and Long-lasting Secretary, Lagos State Service of Equity, Mrs Titilayo Shitta-Bey, during a media conference for the remembrance of the Homegrown and Sexual Viciousness Mindfulness Month held at the Secretariat, Alausa.

According to Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Shitta-Bey said that the DSVA “now receives an average of 250 clients on a monthly basis.”

“The agency has received 5,624 cases via the Virtual Referral and Response Service and physical report between August 2022 and July 2023. The organization currently gets a normal of 250 clients consistently,” the Specialist General noted, adding “The most youthful kid that accomplished sexual viciousness was a 18-month-old child, while the most established client that accomplished abusive behavior at home was a 79-year-elderly person.”

Separating the information, Shitta-Bey expressed that for the period under survey, the organization recorded “2,331 aggressive behavior at home (cases), 90 assault (cases), 72 rapes, one endeavor to commit assault, two instances of rape by infiltration, 123 dangers to life, 609 other homegrown issues and misuse cases, and 384 non-GBV cases.”

Different cases recorded, as per the Long-lasting Secretary, are 143 instances of youngster misuse/actual attack, 235 contamination cases, three instances of attack by minor to minor, and 33 inappropriate behavior cases, among others.

She added, “The office has gotten 21 controlling requests, truly by the courts according to the Security Against Aggressive behavior at home Regulation, 2015 against oppressive mates. Besides, Lagos State Government through the Directorate of Public Arraignments got something like 120 decisions during the period under audit.”

While reeling out programs for the 2023 Homegrown and Sexual Savagery Mindfulness Month which starts on Friday, September 1, the Specialist General charged survivors of sexual and abusive behavior at home to end the way of life of quietness by shouting out.
