APC Zoning: Onicha LG Secures Southern Senatorial District Ticket in Ebonyi Rerun

SHARE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has strategically zoned the senatorial ticket for the southern district to Onicha Local Government Area, setting the stage for the upcoming February 2024 rerun election, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The vacancy arose following the resignation of Chief David Umahi, who left the position to become the Minister of Works. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, declared the seat vacant, paving the way for the rerun.

This zoning decision poses a challenge to the political aspirations of Umahi’s younger brother, Austin, who recently declared interest in contesting the rerun. The APC, in justifying the move, cited the principles of equity and justice, stating that Onicha LGA has not held a prominent political position within the current distribution in the southern senatorial district.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, the APC leader in Ebonyi, is lauded for his commitment to leadership characterized by equity and justice. The party’s State Working Committee expresses alignment with the governor’s philosophy, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence and fairness in all parts of the state.
