According to Saleh, the program aims to alleviate overcrowding in correctional centers by releasing deserving inmates. The inauguration in Zaria marked the release of 68 individuals from Zaria, Makarfi, Soba, and Ikara Correctional Centers. Overall, 399 inmates in Kaduna State benefited from this initiative, with a total cost of N52 million.

Each released inmate will receive N10,000 to cover transportation costs, facilitating their reintegration into society. The initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Government, is a crucial step in addressing the challenges faced by correctional facilities and easing the burden on the judiciary.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Ojo, highlighted the overstrained conditions of correctional centers nationwide and emphasized the importance of reducing inmate numbers. The initiative is set to benefit over 4,000 inmates across the country, helping to restore balance and fairness in the justice system.
