SHARE

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State is intensifying efforts to ensure road safety during the upcoming Yuletide season. The FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun, Anthony Uga, emphasized the need for a shift in the behavior of road users, particularly on the accident-prone Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Uga addressed the alarming rise in accidents along the expressway, where 16 lives were lost in three separate incidents within a six-day period. He stressed the importance of motorists reassessing their driving habits, stating, “If you are fatigued while driving from a long distance, why don’t you park and rest?”

As part of their safety campaign, the FRSC is urging motorists to avoid nighttime travel and to reduce their speed to enhance safety on the highway. Additionally, passengers are encouraged to play an active role in road safety by cautioning any driver displaying risky behavior. The FRSC has provided a toll-free line for passengers to report details of vehicles, enabling authorities to take appropriate action.

To further enhance safety awareness, the FRSC has initiated sensitization programs at motor stations, educating drivers on the risks associated with driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. Uga also advised motorists to exercise caution on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, considering the ongoing road rehabilitation.

As the festive season approaches, the FRSC remains committed to promoting road safety and reducing accidents through a combination of awareness campaigns and enforcement measures. Road users are encouraged to prioritize safety to ensure a secure and joyful Yuletide celebration.
