Guild Laments Nollywood Actors’ Resistance to Health Insurance Plan

SHARE

Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), expresses concern over the reluctance of certain Nollywood actors to enroll in the guild’s health insurance plan while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, today.

Rollas emphasizes that the AGN has established Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) providing comprehensive health insurance coverage for members across the country.

In response to the increasing trend of ailing celebrities seeking financial assistance on social media, Rollas underscores the existence of an insurance plan designed for AGN members. The guild’s insurance covers various aspects, including standard health insurance and out-of-production insurance for accidents during production.

Rollas highlights that the minimum subscription for the HMO is N1,700 per month, allowing flexibility in payment durations.

Despite the guild’s commitment to actor welfare, Rollas notes the challenge of members showing a lack of commitment by not subscribing to or paying premiums for the health insurance plans.

He laments the celebrity mentality of expecting everything for free, urging actors to demonstrate commitment by participating in the AGN HMO and insurance programs.

Rollas discourages actors from resorting to social media for financial aid, emphasizing the guild’s ability to handle health-related issues administratively and calling for genuine supporters to come forward.
