In a recent enforcement operation that commenced on Sunday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) took decisive action by seizing 78 trucks for engaging in unauthorized parking within the Apapa-Ijora area of the state.

As revealed in a statement provided to PUNCH Online by Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, this operation was carried out in collaboration with relevant security agencies. The primary objective was to ensure a smooth flow of traffic for Lagosians, especially during the festive season.

According to the statement, the impounded vehicles were a result of the efforts of LASTMA officers who worked in conjunction with other security agencies. The agency’s acting General Manager emphasized that these enforcement actions would be ongoing, reinforcing a strict stance against indiscriminate parking and obstructions in the Apapa-Ijora axis.

Drivers were urged to exercise control on the road and encouraged to promptly report any abandoned or broken-down trailers or trucks by contacting the agency’s hotlines.

In the words of the statement, “The early Sunday morning enforcement operations lasted between 12 am to 7 am. According to Mr. Bakare Oki (G.M LASTMA), the enforcement operations will be continuous with zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and impediments in the axis. He, however, called on motorists to take possession of the road and not hesitate to inform LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck via the agency’s hotlines.”
