Osimhen and Oshoala: Making Nigerian Football Great Again

SHARE

Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala recently won the CAF Men’s and Women’s Player of The Year awards, making history like it happened in 1999. This makes us wonder: is Nigerian football starting a new chapter?

Nigeria, once known as the ‘Giants of Africa,’ has a big football history. From winning the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations to a great time in the 1990s and early 2000s, Nigerian football did really well.

The 1994 World Cup was a big deal. The Super Eagles, with players like Rashidi Yekini, Stephen Keshi, and Austin Okocha, did great. It was their first time at the World Cup, and they impressed everyone.

At the same time, the Super Falcons were showing their power, winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations many times. Stars like Mercy Akide and Perpetua Nkwocha made Nigeria strong in women’s football.

Things went a bit down recently, but Osimhen and Oshoala’s awards might change that. The Super Falcons also won the Team of The Year award. Young talents like Victor Boniface and Gift Orban give us hope for the future.

Paul Onuachu says we need a strong football plan, not just talent. Kingdom Osayi thinks Osimhen’s award is good for Nigerian football, hoping for success at AFCON.

Charles Anazodo knows it’s tough now, but hard work and ambition can help. Mohamed Saliu and Sadiq Umar agree, saying it can make Nigerian players work harder.

In the end, going back to the great times won’t be easy, but Osimhen and Oshoala’s awards bring hope for a new chapter in Nigerian football.
