The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon in Oyo State, Oba Francis Alao, has provided clarification regarding the recent controversy surrounding a viral photo featuring Pastor Enoch Adeboye sitting on one of his palace chairs. In a statement addressing the issue, Oba Alao explained the context of the situation, highlighting that Pastor Adeboye visited Orile-Igbon for an evangelism program held at Olugbon High School’s playground.

According to the monarch, Pastor Adeboye’s chopper landed in an open space within the palace, where Oba Alao received him before engaging in discussions about Nigeria and Orile-Igbon. To show support for the program, Oba Alao offered one of the ceremonial royal chairs, typically reserved for top dignitaries, to Pastor Adeboye for use during the event.

Importantly, Oba Alao clarified that the chair provided was not the specific one reserved for the Olugbon, which holds significant spiritual and historical importance and cannot be shared. He emphasized that the royal chairs are intended to honor high-ranking dignitaries and are not meant to desecrate the throne.

Addressing concerns raised by some individuals, Oba Alao sought understanding, reaffirming the sanctity of the traditional royal chair reserved exclusively for the Olugbon. He underscored the cultural and historical significance attached to these traditional symbols within the palace.

In the spirit of Christmas, Oba Alao extended heartfelt felicitations to Christians, encouraging them to use this time to reflect on the multiple blessings of God. He emphasized the importance of making a new commitment to a life that mirrors Christ’s values—embracing righteousness, honesty, and love for fellow human beings, irrespective of their faith and cultural beliefs.
