The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced significant progress in the ongoing recruitment process for the constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force. Following a meeting at the PSC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, the board has approved the commencement of screening for successful applicants starting from January 8, 2024.

A total of 416,270 youths have been shortlisted for the next stage of recruitment, with 315,065 in the General Duty category and 101,205 in the specialist cadre. Letters of invitation are expected to be dispatched to the successful candidates on or before December 23, 2023.

The screening process will encompass both physical and credentials checks, conducted in the applicants’ respective states of origin. Candidates are required to bring original copies of their certificates and other credentials, along with letters of attestation from their Local Government Chairmen and/or traditional rulers.

Subsequent stages of the recruitment process will include computer-based tests, which will be scheduled after the screening exercise, followed by a medical examination. The specific dates for these stages will be communicated in due course.

In terms of regional distribution, Kaduna State has emerged at the forefront with 31,117 successful applicants, closely followed by Adamawa with 29,848. Other states with notable numbers include Benue, Borno, Katsina, Bauchi, Kano, Niger, Gombe, Yobe, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Taraba, Plateau, and Kebbi.

Conversely, Anambra State has the lowest number of successful applicants with 1,141, followed by Ebonyi, Lagos, and Abia. The PSC emphasizes the need for candidates to uphold the discipline and conduct expected in the Nigeria Police Force, an institution guided by strict laws and regulations.
