The country’s southeast geographical zone has seen an increase in cybercrimes and land fraud, which has been denounced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement made on Saturday, December 9, the EFCC Enugu zone commander in charge of the southeast, Aliyu Nuhu Naibi, bemoaned the ugly trends of land fraud that were deterring investments and, among other things, preventing the development of jobs.

As part of the anti-corruption road walk in Enugu on the occasion of the United Nations’ declaration of this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day, Naibi was answering questions from reporters.

Even if the commission had set up mechanisms to deter the plague, he maintained that the people and administration of the area should be the ones to stop it once and for all.

In the most significant interests of the area and its youth, the head of the EFCC urged everyone involved in fighting corruption to come up and protect the site from the unsightly trends of cybercrime and land fraud.

He declared that we want to take this chance to beg our community, religious authorities, and traditional leaders to step in and stop this horrible trend.

“The state administration is not excluded either. They must speak out against this and take action, as must every segment of society. I make this claim because land fraud deters investors from entering any state where it is practised and is considered an act of economic sabotage.

Naibi clarified that the purpose of the road walk in Enugu was to raise awareness of the detrimental impacts of corruption.

In her remarks, Naibi echoed the calls made by Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, for anti-corruption stakeholders to band together and keep helping the commission break the nation’s corruption chain.
