The National Assembly intends to approve and endorse the 2024 Appropriation Bill by December 31, as per President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request. President Tinubu delivered the bill and budget on Wednesday, urging lawmakers to promptly passit in order to uphold the January-December fiscal cycle.

Legislators have summoned government officials, department and agency heads, security leaders, and chief executive officers of companies that get financing to discuss strategies for achieving the goal by tomorrow. This meeting will lay the foundation for the approval of the N27.6 trillion Budget for Renewed Hope.

Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, made a firm commitment in a message last night, vowing to adopt a strict and uncompromising approach. He warned that those MDA chiefs who do not protect their votes will receive no allocation in the following year.

The chairman of the Senate committee claimed that a fresh executive request would impede the expeditiousness of the budget.

Senator Adeola stated that the joint committee, consisting of members from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, will only provide a single report from the Appropriation Committee.

“In contrast to previous practises, where we had to gather to reach agreement and consensus physically, the joint committees will provide us with a unified report.” This reduces the amount of time required.

“We anticipate that the Executive will not introduce a novel element that was not included in the budget under our consideration.”

“President Tinubu has cautioned his ministers and heads of government agencies to collaborate with us in light of the limited time available.”
