UBEC’s Digital Quality Evaluation System: Advancing Nigerian Education

SHARE

UBEC has implemented a digitalized quality assurance evaluation system called ‘UBECOLLECT’ in public primary and junior schools throughout Nigeria.
According to Mr Alabi Asaju, the Acting Director of Quality Assurance at UBEC, this project represents a significant change from the previous strategy. The previous method primarily emphasised school staff rather than students and overlooked factors that influence student success and teacher effectiveness.

During his tour of schools in Oyo State, Asaju stated that the UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has implemented the use of technological gadgets to ensure quality in schools and rectify manual errors.

Additionally, UBEC has stated that the allocation of N100 billion for basic education investment is insufficient.
He emphasised the importance of inspection, monitoring, and evaluation in any nation’s educational system. It aids implementers and policymakers in guaranteeing adherence to standards and promoting student achievement in academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular pursuits. Additionally, it resolves persistent challenges pertaining to the delivery of education and students’ academic performance.

The practice of overseeing and examining schools has been in existence since the inception of education. Previously, school inspectors held authoritative positions in matters pertaining to education. Attain the same level of excellence as in the past—school inspectors prioritised evaluating the performance of the personnel rather than the kids. The procedure prioritised the identification of faults rather than providing feedback to the individual being inspected.
