Finding Inspiration: Tobi Makinde Credits Portable for Shaping His Role in A Tribe Called Judah

Tobi Makinde, the actor who played Shina in Nigeria’s popular film “A Tribe Called Judah,” talks about the challenges of taking on the role and how his hairstyle influenced his performance.

In an interview, Tobi shares his experience working on “A Tribe Called Judah.” Playing the character Shina presented a unique challenge for him, as it was a role he had never tackled before in a film.

Tobi, who had previously portrayed a mobster, had to study and draw inspiration for the role of Shina. When given the part, he thought of referencing the controversial singer Portable, also known as Habeeb Okikiola.

According to Tobi, he looked to Portable’s social media and videos as a source of inspiration, learning from the singer’s style to authentically bring the character of Shina to life. He also discusses how his distinctive hairstyle affected how people perceived him in the role.

In essence, Tobi sheds light on the creative process actors go through, emphasizing the importance of finding inspiration to make their performances genuine and relatable.
