The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has delayed the distribution of postgraduate academic gowns for its 54th convocation event after hoodlums vandalised the vehicle carrying the gowns. Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor, said that the convocation, slated for January 16 and 17, 2024, would see 17,464 students graduate, with 10,578 gaining first degrees and 6,886 obtaining postgraduate degrees.

Graduating students, who had paid N15,000 each for the gowns, were alerted via text message and email that the already paid-for gowns had been taken from the bus. This has sparked dissatisfaction among pupils, with one expressing dismay on social media.
