The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has taken the first moves towards improving the pension plan for former law enforcement officers. Concerns for the well-being of active and retired officers are the focus of this action.

The IGP gathered retired and serving officers and pension specialists in 2023 to address outstanding concerns with the current pension plan. Following a thorough analysis, the IGP identified possible problems with the suggested plan and suggested taking caution.

To mitigate post-retirement challenges, a specialised team has been established to develop a more comprehensive and advantageous pension plan for retiring officers.

The IGP reiterates its commitment to putting officers’ well-being first, especially regarding retirement benefits. It also calls on current and former officers to work together to create a more robust Police Pension Scheme.
