Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Halts MTN-Glo Disconnection Amidst Interconnection Debt Dispute

SHARE

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has decided to temporarily halt the approved phased disconnection of Globacom Limited (Glo) by MTN Nigerian Communications. This decision, effective from January 18, 2024, is attributed to a prolonged interconnection debt dispute between the two telecommunications companies.

The NCC, in a statement by Director of Public Affairs Reuben Mouka, announced that both parties have reached an agreement to resolve outstanding issues. The regulatory body, exercising its powers, has suspended the disconnection for 21 days, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing consumer interests and ensuring the seamless operation of the national telecoms network.

The NCC was approved on January 8, 2024, with awareness of potential consumer impacts and has been actively engaging both companies to facilitate a resolution. While expecting MTN and Glo to resolve issues within the stipulated period, the NCC asserts that settling interconnect debts is imperative for compliance with regulatory obligations by all telecom licensees.
