Nigeria’s Minister of Interior Declares the Start Date for the Automated Passport Application

On January 8, 2024, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the upcoming implementation of an automated system while reviewing Nigeria Immigration Service facilities in Abuja.

By providing applicants with a safe and easy application process and minimising human interaction, the programme seeks to expedite passport application procedures. Tunji-Ojo underlined the government’s commitment to strengthening security measures and guaranteeing the comfort of Nigerian citizens while highlighting the system’s importance in reducing the use of falsified documents.

The Minister emphasised the need to station document verification staff in local government districts to carefully review applications and stop the submission of forged paperwork. This action aligns with the government’s technology goals to strengthen security protocols and enhance service delivery.
