President Bola Tinubu has revealed that he periodically checks on his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, since the latter left office in 2023. Tinubu shared this information during the launch of Femi Adesina’s book “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media, and Publicity (2015-2023).”

Tinubu mentioned that he contacts Buhari to inquire about his well-being and whether he is actively engaged in his farm in Daura, Katsina State. He commended Buhari for keeping his promise not to interfere with or intrude upon the affairs of Tinubu’s administration.

In expressing his gratitude, Tinubu stated that when Buhari handed over authority on May 29, 2023, he returned to his hometown and maintained a distance from the day-to-day operations of the government. Tinubu appreciated Buhari’s commitment to democracy in Nigeria and their partnership in its advancement.

According to Tinubu, Buhari’s stance after the handover was clear: “After handing over, you (Buhari) said, ‘I will be far away in Daura but if you need me, contact me.’ I won’t intrude on whatever you are doing. I won’t interfere. I won’t breathe down your throat. We’ve partnered to make democracy flourish in Nigeria.”
