Former Attorney-General of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami (SAN), clarifies the arrest of whistleblower Mahdi Shehu.

Mahdi Shehu’s lawyer, Mohammed Abubakar, claimed his client was apprehended in Abuja on February 6 for urging President Bola Tinubu to probe former President Muhammadu Buhari and other officials.

However, Malami’s legal team, represented by lawyer A.A. Sherif, countered that Shehu was detained in Kaduna for allegedly extorting $500,000 from his wife, Aisha.

The statement further accused Shehu of engaging in extortion, criminal intimidation, and attempting to deceive a syndicate using GSM numbers and email addresses to obtain money through deceptive means.

It stressed that the purpose of the statement is to correct misconceptions and provide accurate information about Shehu’s arrest amid an ongoing police investigation.

The complaint lodged with the Inspector-General of Police involves allegations of extortion, criminal intimidation, and attempting to obtain money through deceitful means.
