Kaduna State’s Struggle With Growing Out-of-School Children
The problem of children not attending school continues in Kaduna State, Nigeria, in spite of the efforts made by the administration.
Recent discussions about problems and solutions took place at a stakeholders’ roundtable and media debate.
A growing number of children who are not attending school has been linked by the stakeholders, particularly in rural areas, to hazardous schools. In response, they demanded immediate change, citing an 80:1 teacher-to-student ratio.
The Kuwait Fund would assist in bringing back 680,000 out-of-school students, Governor Uba Sani said, acknowledging the issue.
In order to enhance the teacher/pupil ratio, the State Universal Basic Education Board brought attention to a shortage of 13,000 instructors.
