NCC Directs Telecoms to Block Unlinked NIN-SIM Cards by February 28, 2024

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed telecom operators to block users who haven’t linked their National Identification Numbers (NIN) to their SIM cards by February 28, 2024.

Aminu Maida, NCC’s executive vice-chairman, conveyed this directive at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair.

The NCC stressed the critical importance of this action for national security and emphasized that telecom operators must adhere to ensure service quality, accessibility, and affordability.

The NCC is also committed to promoting economic growth and safeguarding consumer interests through regulatory measures, including the implementation of short codes for unified services.

Subscribers are urged to promptly link their NIN to their SIM cards through designated channels, including sending NIN- your 11 digit NIN to 996 or dialing *996*.
