SHARE

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the dismissal of Inspector Michael Odey for his involvement in extortion, while two Assistant Superintendents of Police, Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo, have faced queries and are recommended for dismissal.

These three officers, including Inspector Michael Odey, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and extorting $3,000 from two travelers in December 2023. They falsely claimed to be operatives of the EFCC and accused the victims of fraud, leading to their transportation across states.

Upon reporting the incident to police authorities, the extorted money was recovered, resulting in the dismissal of Inspector Odey and the recommendation for dismissal of the ASPs.

The disciplinary process for the ASPs involves review by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Service Commission (PSC), ensuring a fair and just resolution.

After thorough investigation, AIG Alifa Omata upheld the recommendation for Inspector Odey’s dismissal, effective February 7, 2024.

While the officers remain in custody for ongoing investigations into similar cases, residents are encouraged to report any misconduct by law enforcement agents, promising prompt and appropriate action to uphold fairness and justice.
