Apple Faces $2 Billion Fine from EU Over Unfair Music Streaming Practice

SHARE

The European Union fined Apple $2 billion for unfairly promoting its own music streaming service over competitors like Spotify.

Apple had restricted app developers from informing iOS users about alternative and cheaper music subscription services outside the app, violating EU antitrust rules. The fine followed a complaint from Spotify. Apple disagreed with the decision and plans to appeal.

Margrethe Vestager accused Apple of abusing its dominant position, and going forward, Apple must allow music streaming developers to communicate freely with users. The fine reflects both Apple’s financial power and the harm caused to users.
