Dutch footballer Quincy Promes is reportedly held by police in Dubai after a training camp with Spartak Moscow, weeks after being sentenced for drug smuggling.

The former Ajax star was stopped at border control and not allowed to travel with his teammates to Russia.

Promes was sentenced to six years in prison for smuggling over 1,350 kilos of cocaine in January 2020. He was also sentenced to 18 months for stabbing his cousin in June last year.

Promes is suspected to be held in connection to his criminal conviction, but it’s unconfirmed. Prosecutors sought a nine-year sentence for the drug case.
