Musk also shared a statement from Andy Stone, Meta’s Communications Director, which was originally released on X.

In a playful twist, Musk added photos of penguins adorned with Meta social media app icons. These penguins saluted a Captain penguin, who sported an X platform icon, as Musk continued to revel in Meta’s crisis.

According to Down Detector, the Meta issues began around 3 PM, affecting both the sites and smartphone apps. Over 40,000 reports flooded in, documenting problems with Instagram and Facebook.

In response, users flocked to the alternative social media site, Twitter/X. One user wondered, “Facebook and Instagram down? Is it the end of the world?” Another exclaimed, “FACEBOOK, MESSENGER & INSTAGRAM DOWN???? IS THIS THE END OF THE WORLD?” .
