Pope Francis skips the Good Friday procession due to health concerns

Pope Francis did not attend the Good Friday Way of the Cross procession in Rome owing to health concerns, as stated by the Vatican shortly before the ceremony.

The Pope, who is 87 years old, has suffered from bronchitis and the flu, and in 2021, a part of his intestine will be removed.

Despite his health concerns, Francis is slated to preside over Easter Mass and deliver a speech on global issues.

In recent meditations, he criticised armed violence and internet hatred while also expressing solidarity with the marginalised.

The Pope’s recent statements and actions, such as allowing blessings for same-sex couples and commenting on the Good Fridaycrisis, have generated controversy.
