German Football Authorities to Redesign Jersey Number Amid Nazi Symbolism Concerns

SHARE

German football authorities have decided to change the design of the number “4” on the national team’s jerseys following concerns that it resembles a logo used by Nazi paramilitary units.

This decision came after social media users pointed out the similarity of the number to the Schutzstaffel (SS) logo. The German Football Association (DFB) stated that they take the matter seriously and are working on an alternative design for the number.

Although the number “44” is not currently used by the German teams, Adidas, the official uniform supplier, allowed customers to personalize jerseys with this number. However, Adidas has announced they will block the number “44” and removed the option to customize German team jerseys from their website.

The new uniforms were recently unveiled and will be worn by both the men’s and women’s teams at the upcoming UEFA European Championship hosted by Germany.
