House of Rep said releasing Nnamdi Kanu is a lasting solution to insecurity in the South East region

There has been a lot of negotiation currently going on for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to quench the insecurity in the South Eastern  region to restore peace and free flow or economic activities in the region as it is affecting the economy of the Nigerian state in general. 

 Finding a lasting solution to the prolong insecurity ravaging the South Eastern Nigeria a adhoc committee of House of Representatives has raised alarm that the insecurity in the region is becoming unbearable.

Following the statement issued on Wednesday, by the chairman of the committee Obinna Aguocha, working with the security agencies to end criminal activitiesin Isuikwuato and Umunneochi LGAs of Abia and other states in the Eastern Region he said criminal elements are being chased out of the geo-political zone.

Further contended that the committee has been engaging with several stakeholders, including the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to work for a “lasting solution” to the insecurity in the South-East.

The statement reads “As a part of the search for a lasting solution, we have also engaged with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement reads.

I am happy to announce significant progress in this regard, particularly on the need to put a stop to the Monday sit-at-home that has crippled the economy of the southeast. We have interfaced with relevant security agencies and Service Chiefs on the imperative to reduce kidnappings, assassinations, and banditry in the southeast.

As we have continued to maintain, it is incumbent upon us to come together, transcending our differences in our search for sustainable solutions that will quell these security threats and pave the way for a brighter future,” he said.

Recall that the previous month, Aguocha contended that for the release of Kanu, his freedom is necessary for the peace in the South East. Aguocha commended President Bola Tinubu for showing interest in ending the insecurity in the South East.
