In response to a viral photo showing Pastor Enoch Adeboye sitting on the Olugbon of Orile Igbon’s throne in Oyo state, social media erupted with varied opinions.

Some criticized Adeboye for what they saw as disrespecting cultural traditions, while others directed blame towards the monarch for allegedly allowing such an action.

Critics condemned Adeboye, suggesting that his actions were intentional and disrespectful to Yoruba cultural heritage. They expressed concern about potential repercussions if such actions were not addressed.

Some placed responsibility on the Olugbon for allegedly allowing the pastor to take his seat, viewing it as a lack of respect for his position.

Contrarily, supporters defended Adeboye, attributing the incident to a divine endorsement, citing biblical references of kings bowing before individuals as God’s will. They disregarded the criticisms, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the incident.

However, amidst the criticisms and defences, opinions were divided. Some blamed Adeboye for perceived pride, stating that true humility would have led him to decline the gesture.

Others criticized his actions as elevating himself to godlike status despite acknowledging God’s precedence.

The incident triggered a heated debate online, polarizing opinions between those viewing it as a religious endorsement and those condemning it as disrespectful to tradition and cultural norms.
