PDP Calls for Akeredolu’s Deputy to Take Charge

The economic activities of Ondo State have been severely impacted by the prolonged absence and health challenges facing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, as asserted by the Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Expressing discontent, the PDP has insisted that Governor Akeredolu should temporarily delegate power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the state government.

Fatai Adams, the state chairman of PDP, expressed concern over the emergence of an informal cabal allegedly exploiting the governor’s health condition, resulting in financial strain and a leadership vacuum within the state.

Highlighting the urgency of addressing the leadership void, Adams recalled Governor Akeredolu’s previous advice to late President Umaru Yar’Adua. Akeredolu had emphasized the importance of prioritizing health over political responsibilities. Adams urged the governor to heed his own counsel and transfer power to the deputy governor, thereby safeguarding the effective governance of the state.

As Governor Akeredolu continues to reside in his private residence in Ibadan following a medical trip to Germany, calls for his return to the state or the temporary transfer of power to his deputy have intensified among stakeholders. The Ondo State House of Assembly is now under increasing pressure to address the leadership vacuum, given the mounting concerns surrounding the state’s governance.
