President Bola Tinubu, represented by Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has urged a comprehensive review of the global tax system at the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China in Kampala, Uganda. Emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to multilateralism, Tinubu highlighted the imbalance in international tax systems favouring wealthier nations, leading to significant revenue losses for developing countries.

Nigeria, with other African Group members at the UN, proposes a Framework Convention on Tax to address this issue and create a fairer global tax system. Tinubu expressed gratitude for countries supporting the initiative, signalling a commitment to rectifying tax system inequities.

Additionally, he underscored Nigeria’s dedication to South-South economic collaboration and stressed the crucial role of the G-77’s Action Committee on Raw Materials in enhancing trade terms and economic resilience. Tinubu also addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful two-state solution.
