The Court of Appeal in Abuja rejected the Federal Government’s attempt to start a new trial against former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu. He was accused of a ₦7.6 billion fraud and money laundering.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the government’s appeal was not properly prepared and couldn’t be used.

Previously, a Federal High Court had sentenced Kalu to 12 years in prison, but the Supreme Court overturned that decision. Now, the case will be retried with a different judge.

Kalu obtained an order preventing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from prosecuting him again. The Federal Government’s appeal was dismissed due to insufficient court records .
