No doubt the current tension in Nigeria is gradually heading to wider range of dispute as regional elites engages in a public disagreement.

The former governor of Anambra state, had responded to the Attorney General of the Federation, (AGF) Abubakar Malami, for saying the Federal Government may declare a state of emergency in Anambra State for the rising tension elapsing the social stability in the state.

In response, the former vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Peter Obi said “the Federal Government should first declare a State of emergency in Nigeria before taking such a step in Anambra State”

Mean while, Malami had said; the Federal Government was considering the move, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State due the level of insecurity tension in the state.

Following the Federal Executive Council Meeting (FEC) held last week where the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) made the statement.

However, Peter Obi said Nigeria is facing more security challenges than Anambra State.

While Speaking with Channels Television on Monday, the former governor said, “saying that they want to declare a state of emergency in Anambra State because of insecurity challenges should actually mean that they need to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria, because if you want to declare a state of emergency in Anambra because of insecurity, you have to declare it first in Nigeria.”
