New Gas Supply Partnership: Nigeria to Begin Gas Export to South Africa in 2024
Nigeria is set to begin supplying gas to South Africa in the first quarter of 2024, as announced by David Ige, the Executive of Riverside LNG, a Nigerian-based energy company.
In a recent interview in Abuja, Ige revealed that both nations have initiated discussions for a significant energy collaboration.
Earlier this year, Riverside LNG entered into a gas-export partnership agreement with Johannes Schuetze Energy Import AG of Germany.
Ige mentioned that they will likely finalize another market segment early in the year, with an off-take for South Africa.
He emphasized the growing gas market in the region, covering approximately 3,000 nautical miles of Nigeria, including southern Africa, western Africa, northwest Europe, the Caribbean, and South America.
According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Nigeria holds 202 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of untapped proven gas reserves.
