NERC Fines Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for Tariff Violations

SHARE

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has fined the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) ₦200,000,000 for overcharging customers in violation of tariff regulations.

NERC found that AEDC applied the new tariff to all customer bands, instead of following the prescribed classifications for fair billing.

As a result, AEDC is directed to reimburse customers in Bands B, C, D, and E who were billed above the allowed categories.

AEDC must provide token reimbursements to affected customers by April 11, 2024. Additionally, AEDC must pay the fine by April 12, 2024, and provide evidence of compliance to NERC.

This action by NERC aims to protect consumer rights and ensure fairness in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
